Tom concentrates his practice on matters involving business law, commercial transactions and real estate transactions, although his practice can encompass a wide variety of other areas. He frequently drafts, negotiates, and/or reviews contracts, purchase and sale agreements, and similar documents for clients.

Tom also has expertise in corporate law; he has created many Alaska corporations, both non-profit and for-profit. Tom advises clients on a variety of business, corporate, and commercial matters, and has handled several mergers and acquisitions. In addition, Tom has assisted many clients in purchasing real property, and he has experience with foreclosures, evictions and bankruptcies.

Tom also has substantial experience with administrative agencies and administrative appeals. He practices regularly before the Alaska Public Offices Commission (APOC), representing candidates, campaigns and groups, and regularly advises clients on APOC matters such as lobbying and campaign finance issues.

He has handled telecommunications matters before the Regulatory Commission of Alaska (RCA) for a variety of clients, including GCI and Verizon. Tom also advises clients on issues of insurance coverage, reviews insurance policies, and seeks coverage for clients of insured events.

Tom has handled numerous cases of public interest litigation, involving elections, voter initiatives, referendum, recalls, and other election-related disputes. Tom also advises clients on estate planning matters, has drafted numerous wills and trusts, and has participated in probating estates. Tom is an active member of the Alaska Bar Association and has been admitted to practice before the U.S. Supreme Court, the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals, and the District Court for the District of Alaska.
